NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY
National Portrait Gallery is one of the most famous museums in London. It shouldn´t be confused with National Portrait Gallery, in Washington. Its collection has portraits of the most important people in history. NPG was opened in 1856. The objective was to collect portraits of the most powerful and important people in the UK. The most famous portraits are: William Shakespeare, Queen Elizabeth or "The Beatles". At first, the person must be dead to have a portrait in the NTG. But today this rule is not required. Nowadays the collection has 10.000 objects: paintings, sculptures, cartoons and drawings.
